Why Blood Donation Matters

Like humans, our beloved dogs sometimes require blood transfusions due to illness, injury, or surgery. A dog’s blood can be a lifeline for those fighting for their lives. That’s where our furry champions come in! Each donation helps a dog recover, heal, and thrive again.

Here are a few critical situations where a dog might need blood:

Trauma or Injury

Accidents can lead to significant blood loss, requiring a transfusion to stabilize a dog.

Surgery

Surgical procedures often involve blood loss, and a transfusion may be necessary to maintain safe blood levels during and after the operation.

Anemia

Some conditions can lead to low red blood cell counts and a blood transfusion may be required as part of the treatment plan.

Coagulation Disorders

Dogs with bleeding disorders may need blood or blood products such as plasma to help replace specific clotting factors.

Furry Guardians: The Blood Donor League

The Blood Donor League plays a crucial role in supporting dogs in need. This dedicated group of canine donors visits our vet clinic to provide life-saving blood for fellow pups. Their loyalty and willingness to help is greatly appreciated by our staff, the recipients of the blood along with their families. The work of the Blood Donor League not only saves lives but also strengthens our community, reminding us that heroism can come in many forms, especially from our four-legged friends.

Hi, I am Harry

Furry Guardian

I’ve been donating blood for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s pawsome! Every time I visit the Wellington After Hours Vet Clinic, the wonderful team there gives me so many pats and treats! I love seeing their smiling faces; they always make me feel special.

Plus, I get to save other dogs’ lives. I’ve helped more dogs than I can count, I don’t have enough toes on my paws to keep track! It’s a great feeling knowing that because of me, there are more healthy dogs out there to meet and play with at the dog park. I’d say it’s a win-win – treats for me, and more friends for all of us. Woof
